On July 10thth the Church remembers the life of Blessed John Duns Scotus, a Franciscan theologian and philosopher who lived from around 1265 until 1308. From time to time in Christian history God raises up people gifted with holiness and with intellect so that the whole Church may understand more deeply the Apostolic truth. He is a true inspiration to all those who follow the path of a teacher. God Bless!
Today on July 9th we celebrate the lives of St. Augustine Zhao Rong and Companions. The 120 martyrs in this group died between 1648 and 1930. Most of them (87) were born in China and were children, parents, catechists or laborers, ranging from nine years of age to 72. This group includes four Chinese diocesan priests. They gave the ultimate sacrifice for our faith. God Bless!
Today on July 8th we celebrate the life of Gregory Grassi. St. Gregory Grassi was born in Italy in 1833, ordained in 1856 and sent to China five years later. Gregory was later ordained Bishop of North Shanxi. With 14 other European missionaries and 14 Chinese religious, he was martyred during the short but bloody Boxer Uprising of 1900. He devoted nearly his entire life to the spread of the faith. God Bless his devotion!
Today on July 7th we celebrate the impressive life of Blessed Emmanuel Ruiz and Companions. Blessed Emmanuel Ruiz and Companions was born of humble parents in Santander, Spain, he became a priest and served as a missionary. This was at a time when riots shook Syria and thousands lost their lives in just a short time. Among these were Emmanuel, superior of the Franciscan convent, seven other friars and three laymen.
