Scapular
Many people know what a scapular is, but they don’t know the reason it is called a scapular, or the meaning behind it. From the Latin scapula meaning shoulder, the Catholic scapular is worn over the shoulders to depict the wearer’s pledge to a confraternity, a saint, or a way of life to others, while reminding themselves of that promise.
Two of the scapulars we carry are the Brown Scapular and the Green Scapular.

Brown Scapular
One of the best known and most highly esteemed scapular is the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. It is adapted from the scapular of the Carmelite Order and represents a special Consecration to Our Lady under the title of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Those who wear the Brown Scapular practice a special devotion to Mary. Anyone (not just clergy) can be enrolled in the Confraternity of our Lady of Mount Carmel by any priest. Just obtain the scapular, take it to your priest to have it blessed, and express your desire for enrollment.
Green Scapular
The Green Scapular, called “The Badge of the Immaculate Heart of Mary,” was given to the world by the Blessed Virgin Mary through a series of apparitions to Sister Justine Bisqueyburo, a Daughter of Charity, in the early 1840’s. It is well known as "the Scapular of Conversion," and its promises are protection against Satan, strengthening of faith, a happy death for Catholics, and, most importantly, for conversion for those outside the Church. It is to be worn or carried by the faithful, or given to an unbeliever for their conversion.
