Because Joseph was a carpenter who taught his step-son Jesus the carpentering trade, and always saw to it that Jesus was well housed, European nuns first buried a medal with his likeness on property they hoped to acquire for convents. Over the course of many years the medals were replaced with statues of St. Joseph and the focus shifted from buying to selling.
Homeowners looking to sell often bury a St. Joseph statue in their front yard with the feet pointing towards heaven, and it may work for you too. The St. Joseph statue should be faced towards the seller’s home (or towards a noisy neighbor's home if you want them to move). The location of the St. Joseph statue doesn’t have to be exact – some bury it by the "For Sale" sign, or if you don’t want to mess up the lawn (or don’t have a lawn) burying your St. Joseph statue in a flower pot works too. Just make sure you can find it once the home has sold. After the home has sold, the statue must be dug up and given a place of honor in your new home. (Failure to do so can lead to trouble with the sale or trouble with the new home.)
St-Jude.com has a number of St. Joseph statues for sale, many complete with prayers and the story behind St. Joseph. Home sale transactions can be difficult and take time, so order now – in-stock items are generally shipped the same day they are ordered or within 24 hours.
